Event Series AI and Ethics
Starting in summer 2025, the Faculty for Mathematics and Computer Science is regularly hosting events with speakers addressing ethical questions around AI from a scientific perspective. The talks are expected to encourage lively discussions about the subject.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing our world at a rapid pace - from automated decision making in medicine to algorithms aiding our everyday life. But this progress comes with new ethical questions: Who is responsible for decisions made by AI? How can we prevent algorithms from discriminating against certain groups? How do we balance innovation and privacy?
Deploying AI in security related fields leads to particularly sensitive issues. Specifically, autonomous weapon systems raise questions pertaining to ethics as well as international law. Shall machines be allowed to decide about life or death? Moreover, AI based communication systems and social media affect democracy by driving opinion formation and potentially swinging elections.

Our event series “AI and Ethics” addresses these and related questions. Academic AI experts discuss opportunities and challenges posed by AI from an ethical point of view. Together we will reflect on how to responsibly use AI - for a future with man and technology in harmony.
The events are aimed at students and employees of the University as well as interested guests.
We are looking forward to stimulating insights and lively discussion!
